Surprising 140 elementary students with plans for a bigger, better playground is as fun as it sounds.
UnitedHealthcare recently joined Houston Texans defensive lineman Vince Wilfork to announce a playground renovation at Looscan Elementary in Houston.
The renovation, which includes new playground equipment, picnic areas and a walking trail for the school’s SPARK Park, is possible due to more than $30,000 in grants from UnitedHealthcare, Vince Wilfork Foundation and the Dreambuilders Foundation.
After announcing the exciting news, the students participated in relay races and drills with a tackling dummy. The event concluded with a barbecue lunch.
In addition to the playground renovation, UHC is partnering with Wilfork and Blessings in a Backpack, a national nonprofit organization providing nutritious food to elementary students. As part of the program, 100 students at both Looscan Elementary and Foerster Elementary schools are presented backpacks filled with healthy weekend snacks, providing 60 percent of the children’s caloric intake over the weekend.
UHC is proud to partner with Vince Wilfork, Dreambuilders Foundation and Blessings in a Backpack to enrich the lives of Houston-area students.
