UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Texas—in partnership with Capable Kids Foundation Inc., RGV Down Syndrome Association, Appletree Therapy, and AWARE-RGV—hosted a Night to Shine Prom at Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen on Feb. 10.
Night to Shine, also supported nationwide by the Tim Tebow Foundation, provides people with special needs an unforgettable prom experience. More than 350 churches around the world hosted the events, including 16 churches in Texas.
Prior to the event, UnitedHealthcare provided complimentary final alterations to ball gowns and tuxedos. Every guest entered the event on a red carpet complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, guests were treated to hair and makeup stations, shoe shines, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, a catered dinner, karaoke and a dance floor. At the end of the evening every guest was crowned prom king or queen.
The 2017 Night to Shine was the largest to date, with 75,000 honored guests and 150,000 volunteers nationwide.
