More than 8 percent of infants in Texas weigh less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces at birth, putting them in the lowest birth weight category, according to America’s Health Rankings.

Recognizing the importance of prenatal and infant care in Texas, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Texas (UHC) hosts baby showers for expectant moms and new parents throughout the state. The showers aim to educate moms-to-be about how crucial physician visits are in building a healthy future for their child.

Additionally, UHC offers members Baby Blocks, a free online program that incentivizes healthy pre and postnatal care. Baby Blocks provides rewards for high quality care during the member’s pregnancy and first two years of the child’s life. Each milestone and physician appointment— from program enrollment to a baby’s final visit—merits new rewards, including gift cards and maternity-related items such as teething rings, diaper bags and thermometers. Program members also receive alerts and updates from their maternity care team via text message or email.

UHC has hosted baby showers across Texas, including in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. For a schedule of future events and to enroll in Baby Blocks, visit

UnitedHealthcare Leads by Example, Is Named One of North Texas’ Healthiest Employers

UHC_Healthiest Employers_DBJ_2.8.16For a company whose mission is to help millions of people across the nation live healthier lives, it’s important to also demonstrate that same commitment to its employees.

The Dallas Business Journal named UnitedHealthcare’s Richardson office as one of the “Healthiest Employers in North Texas.”

UnitedHealthcare caught evaluators’ attention with its new employee wellness program Rally for Health (“Rally”).

Rally provides support to employees and their families, enabling them to take control of their health. It offers financial incentives to reward healthy lifestyle choices and proactive management of health conditions.

Participants are encouraged to get regular check-ups and cancer screenings, and to enroll in weight management, fitness, smoking cessation or disease management programs, as appropriate.

In exchange for meeting target levels for biometric and tobacco-free values or by completing a personalized coaching program, employees receive a reduction in their health insurance premium.

Along with ongoing programs and telephone support, technology also plays a powerful role to engage participants and inspire them to make good choices. The Rally website and mobile app feature interactive online missions, challenges, communities, coaching and rewards. Earned for completing missions and challenges, “Rally Coins” can be used to enter sweepstakes for prizes, while participants enjoy financial incentives in the form of contributions into their UnitedHealthcare Health Savings Account.

For UnitedHealthcare employees and their spouses or partners, the Rally program serves as a virtual treasure hunt, providing rewards as they navigate their way to a healthy lifestyle.

Congratulations to UnitedHealthcare’s Richardson office!
