UnitedHealthcare has named Chris Abbott chief executive officer of Medicare & Retirement in Texas and Oklahoma.
In his new role, Abbott will oversee the portfolio of Texas’ and Oklahoma’s Medicare plans. Serving one in five beneficiaries nationally, UnitedHealthcare is the nation’s largest business dedicated to the health and well-being of seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries.
Abbott has served in a number of executive positions since joining UnitedHealthcare in 2002, including his most recent role as Medicare & Retirement CEO for Wisconsin and Michigan. Notably, Abbott has successfully grown UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans in Wisconsin by expanding health plan options and partnering with some of the state’s largest health care systems to enhance consumers’ choice, care and experience.
Prior to joining UnitedHealthcare, Abbott spent four years in physician practice management and served as director of operations for support services at the U.S. Air Force’s second largest medical center. Abbott is also a retired chief master sergeant with more than 22 years of active-duty service in intelligence, global operations, military diplomacy, health services administration and the inspector general’s office.
Abbott earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland in psychology, a master’s degree at Troy State University for international relations and a graduate certificate at Central Michigan University for health services administration.
