UnitedHealthcare Integrates Apple Watch into Motion, Wearable Device Program for Wellness

Apple Watch is now a part of UnitedHealthcare Motion, a wearable device program that helps motivate participants to stay active and achieve nearly 12,000 steps per day – more than double the number of the average American adult.

UnitedHealthcare Motion is available to employers with self-funded and fully insured health plans in Texas. Employees to earn up to $4 per day in financial incentives based on achieving walking goals.

Starting this month, eligible program participants can either use their existing Apple Watch or buy and start using Apple Watch – initially paying tax and shipping – and then paying the purchase price of the device by meeting walking goals. Participants may be able to own – with a zero balance – an Apple Watch after approximately six months of meeting daily walking goals.

Since UnitedHealthcare Motion’s inception, participants have collectively walked more than 235 billion steps and earned nearly $38 million in rewards.

UnitedHealthcare Integrates Apple Watch into Motion Wellness Program

For the first time, Apple Watch® will be integrated into UnitedHealthcare Motion®, a national digital wellness program that provides people with financial incentives for meeting daily walking goals.

After paying tax and shipping, eligible UnitedHealthcare plan participants will be able to receive and start using the Apple Watch later this year, with the option to apply program earnings toward the full purchase of the device. UnitedHealthcare Motion participants who already own an Apple Watch may also be able to use it with the program.

The world’s No. 1 smart watch is a health and fitness companion with intelligent coaching features, water resistance and, now with Apple Watch Series 3, it also features an altimeter. The program’s walking goals are set in the UnitedHealthcare Motion app, which is integrated with Apple’s HealthKit to use data from the Apple Watch to track daily activity.

Since UnitedHealthcare Motion’s inception, participants have collectively walked more than 180 billion steps and earned nearly $30 million in rewards. Among eligible employees, 66 percent registered their devices, with nearly two-thirds of those active with the program.

UnitedHealthcare Integrates Wearable Devices from Samsung and Garmin into Motion Wellness Program

UnitedHealthcare Motion participants who already own one of these activity tracking devices may also be able to use them with the program.

The expansion of these wearable devices makes UnitedHealthcare Motion more flexible, convenient and consumer friendly for companies and their employees.
